Late FFF, Turkey Dinner Recap, and DRS designs Update

Happy Friday!
Well, I'm still behind! (Yikes!) Tis the season I guess!
Sounds like we're all very busy this time of year!

My Fun Filled Friday Santa Challenge will be late this week! I'm so sorry to have to postpone it.

I hope to have it posted tomorrow.

Not sure what Fun Filled Fridays are? Well, Kimmy, one of my best friends, and I host card making challenges on our blogs every week called Fun Filled Fridays (FFF). We take turns every other week giving a challenge. These challenges are announced every Sunday, and we display our finished cards for that challenge the following Friday. Kimmy and I keep the details to ourselves regarding these challenge cards, so until her challenge post Friday, I have no idea what she is planning on making until I see it, just like the rest of you, and vice versa. I think it is so much fun to see how different or similar our cards turn out.

Kimmy and I have been debating about whether or not to continue our Fun Filled Friday Challenges in the new year. Please help us decide! I've placed a poll on my blog for you to give us your feedback. Please vote and/or leave me a comment with your thought and opinions. This poll will run through New Years Day when we'll decide to keep it or not.

Remember the post from the other day about me telling you that I was making my first Turkey dinner. Well, it was a hit! My sister joined my DH and I for dinner & they both ranted and raved about how moist and flavorful my turkey was! DH even mentioned that most often he needs gravy to eat turkey, but didn't need it for this one! I have 'his approval' to make turkey again soon!

I bought a 10 pound turkey and used this brine recipe to soak it in the day before I made it, and then baked it in one of those Reynolds Oven bags following the directions on the box. I also made this Sweet Potato Casserole. I didn't make the topping as it says in the recipe, I just sprinkled it with cinnamon and after it was done baking, I put mini marsh mellows on top and then put it back in the oven for 10 minutes to brown them. This was also very, very good, but almost a touch too sweet. Next time I make them I'm going to try 3/4 cup of white sugar instead.

On another note, I received an email from Samantha from DRS Designs saying that she'll be updating the DT card galleries on the DRS Designs website very soon. You can see all summary of all my cards by clicking here. Enjoy!

I promise next week will be filled with new projects!

Hope you all have a great weekend.
Until tomorrow...

Smiles,
Jennifer

Busy Sunday Here!

Today is a busy day at Ink N Scrap Habits! I have lots to tell you, LOL!

First on the agenda is this weeks Fun Filled Friday Announcement. Kimmy has challenged us to make a Veteran's Thank you card. With Veteran's Day right around the corner, this is such a great idea. I'm sure I can come up with some military type images for this challenge. So, I hope you'll get your patriotic stamps inky and join us in creating a Thank you card for a Vet for this week's challenge. Stay tuned right here, to see my challenge card posted on Friday.

Next up, my Pasta Figioli Recipe Update....

Did you see my post from yesterday? I mentioned that I found a recipe here for Pasta Figioli similar to what you find at the Olive Garden restaurant. Well, I gave it try yesterday & I give it two thumbs up! I made it exactly as the recipe states except, I left out the Tabasco sauce (I don't like hot things) and I couldn't find white beans so they didn't make it in the recipe either. I attempted to make it using the 4 hours on high directions, but after 4 hours my carrots & celery were still rather hard. I let it cook for a couple more hours, added my noodles (I used the tiny ones found in Italian Wedding Soup), and removed the crock pot from the base & just let it cool. Since the noodles were so tiny I figured they would just cook on their own from the heat of the soup already, and they did! I had a bowl for lunch today with some Parmesan cheese on top & it was so hearty & delicious, I'll definitely be making it again! I'm not sure it tastes like the recipe from Olive Garden, but it was very good! I plan to make it soon, just so that I can freeze it into individual serving bowls to eat when the weather really gets cold! Definitely an A+ in my recipe book.

And finally, the Blog Candy Winner announcement from all of the participants who participated in my Card Sketch Wednesday challenges during October. Please help me Congratulate Kimmy! Clicking on this link will take you to her winning card! Congrats Kimmy! I'll be sending you some goodies!
Well, that's it for today! I'm off to my studio to make several cards. I've been busy coloring up images all weekend--now it's time to put them to work! Make sure to check back everyday this week as I'll have some thing new for you everyday!

Hope you all are having a great weekend. Are you well rested after that extra hour of sleep?

Smiles,
Jennifer

SC199-Star Filled Night

Happy November!

How was your Halloween? Was it filled with all kinds of ghosts & goblins?

I can't believe Halloween is over & it's November already! Can you? Time sure flies!

I've been playing around with some of the background stamps by DRS Designs and I attempted to use last week's Sketch Challenge from SCS for this card--SC199. I say 'attempted' because my fourth layer is not quite a rectangle. However, it does overlap the 3 other layers.

I created layer #2 using the star background stamp by DRS Designs. I colored selected stars with red, green, and yellow markers. I matted this piece with red and green cardstock, and then added the appropriate colored Stickles to the colored stars.

While the stars were drying, I heat embossed the large star in gold embossing powder. I cut it out and scored it so that it folded in on the short lines and out along the long lines. This allowed it to pop out and appear 3D-like. On the backside of the star, I put pop-dots in the center and regular adhesive on each point. I then matted it with gold shimmer cardstock, and then again with green cardstock.

I stamped the sentiment with red ink on white cardstock. I also inked the edges with red ink and then matted it with gold and green cardstock. The sentiment reads " A special wish on a star filled night, for a Christmas Day, that's Merry and Bright!"

The cardstock base was created with red cardstock that measures for a finished card size 5 1/4" x 6 3/4." I cut a piece of yellow cardstock to layer on top of the base and used a notched corner punch to decorate all 4 corners. I arranged the star panel, the large star and the matted sentiment on the yellow cardstock as shown in the sketch. I thought the bottom right corner looked a little plain, so I added 2 red brads to fill it in a bit. I finished the card by adhering the card front to the red cardstock base.

Stamps: DRS Designs- Interlocking Star Background, Christmas Tree Punch Star, Special Wish Star Filled Christmas Greeting
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, Rubber Stampede Embossing Ink, Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink in Warm Red
Paper: Smooth white cardstock by Office Depot,
Accessories: Bic Markers, Stickles, Creative Beginnings Embossing Powder, 3D-Dots, Notched Corner Punch, red brads by Making Memories.

So, What do you think? Does this card fulfill the sketch requirement?

Do you have big plans for this weekend? Anyone going to any Halloween parties? I'm working both Saturday and Sunday, but I'm also planning on doing some cooking--the easy way of course--in my Crock Pot! I found this recipe here for the Pasta Figioli similar to what you find at the Olive Garden restaurant. I'm going to try it out & see if it really tastes like it. I love the fact that it makes a big batch. I like to freeze soups like this, to reheat on a nice, cold winter day. Throwing all the ingredients in a Crock Pot & not having to slave over the stove all day makes this even better. I'll let you know how it turns out!

Thanks for visiting today!
Hope you have a great day!

Smiles,
Jennifer
