Season's Greetings Genie Bag Challenge

Today begins the 25th challenge over at the DRS Designs DT blog. Today's challenge is to make a genie bag. It's a quick and inexpensive way to package just about anything. Any size bag will do...you can find the tutorial HERE on SCS.

We would love for you to play along with us. Just post a direct link to your creation in the comment section of the challenge #25 post on the DRS Designs Blog so we can come check it out. If you upload to public gallery, please use the keyword DRSC25.

Is it too early to think of the winter Holidays and Season's Greetings? Once the holidays roll around I always wish I had more gift bags--it so much quicker & easier to "wrap" gifts this way rather then using regular wrapping paper--no scissors or tape, and no wrestling with the long roll! I thought I'd start rounding up a gift bag collection now so I'll be all set when the Holidays get here. I created this holiday Genie Bag for my challenge project to add to it.

I started this project with a white lunch bag and layered it with blue cardstock. I stamped the easy Snowflake Background stamp repeatedly with blue ink on white cardstock and adhered it on top of the blue cardstock. I colored the main image with Prismacolor Pencils and blended them with Gamsol. I spiced it up by adding Stickles to each part of the image.

I stamped the sentiment with black ink and cut it out using my square Nesties and sponged light blue ink around it while it was still in the Nesties die. I arranged the image and the sentiment on a light blue panel of cardstock and added ribbon and the snowflake ribbon slide before adhering it onto the bag.

Stamps: DRS Designs- Four Seasons (M270), All Seasons Sentiment (H296), Snowflake Ribbon Slide (D932), Snowflake Background (H187)
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, SU! Bashful Blue, Brillant Blue
Paper: Smooth white cardstock by Office Depot, Colored Cardstock by American Crafts
Accessories: Prismacolor Pencils, Gamsol, Nesties, Red, Yellow, Golden Rod, Orange, Pink and Clear Stickles, Ribbon by Michael's Holiday Bow-tique, SU! Word Window Punch, EK Success Snowflake Border Punch
Finished Bag Size: 7 7/8" x 5 1/4"

Today I'd also like to send a big Thanks to my friend Beth who nominated me for this blogger award. Please visit her blog at Nana's Memories and More to see all of her great projects. I love how she uses different techniques often & creates a look and style all of her own! I'm sure you'll enjoy her blog as well!

Ketchup Day!

Well, I guess it should be catch up day! LOL!

This week has gotten away from me...time is flyin' like never before!

Many of you probably remember the post regarding my Great aunt who turned 93 years young on February 5th. To all of you who sent her birthday cards, Thank you all so much!

I took this picture of her on her actual birthday after we went out to dinner. We went back to her house for dessert and coffee. My sister found these cute, individual slices of cake and we all shared them. So, don't think this little lady tried to eat all of this!

You're probably wondering where your card is? Well, by her actual birth-date, she only received these cards thus far, not to mention the ones she received from her own family and friends. However, let it be known that she has received about 25 cards total. The last one trickling in earlier this week! I wanted to take her picture again with all 25 of her cards, but when I was there earlier this week she wasn't feeling up to it and asked that I didn't. I respected her wishes.

I am very happy with the progress! You all have made both of our day's! She's still questioning how I know all these people and very much wants to send each of you a personal Thank you card! I told her that it wasn't necessary because I would Thank you all on the computer. Try explaining the computer, email and blogging to a 93 year old! LOL! So, please accept this post as her personal Thank you!

Here's a picture of my sister and I with her.

While I was on vacation, I also received this Lovely Blog award from my friend Heather at The Best in Life. Make sure to run over and check her out. She does awesome work! Thanks so much, Heather! Oh, and for all you blog candy lovers out there...Heather will have some blog candy soon, and you can also check out Jessica's blog for another awesome blog candy opportunity! I just have to help spread the word! :-)

Stay tuned for tomorrow. I'll have a new card to share with you. Have a wonderful day!

I've been Awarded!

Another Blog Award!
Thanks so much to my friend Vicki from Stamped Smiles.

This award is titled the "Marie Antoinette Award."

My curiosity got to me & I had to investigate why this was significant. All I have to say is gotta love Google! LOL!

Apparently, during her reign as the Queen of France, she became known as an extravagant woman who spent excessive amounts of money on clothing, furniture, gambling and diamonds, that eventually caused the people of France to dislike her. This conflict of interest eventually lead up to the French Revolution.

So, how does this award relate to stamping and blogging? (be warned, I think I've looked a little too far into this LOL!)

Well, I'm not spending money on clothing, furniture, gambling and diamonds, however, I can certainly relate to the "excessive spending" part. That's the bad part about being a stamper/scrapbooker. I'm always spending money on something hobby related--stamps, tools, embellishments, paper, cardstock, ribbon, ribbon, and more ribbon etc. Sometimes I feel like I just gotta have every new tool out there! However, I make an attempt not to pay full price for anything relating to stamping/scrapbooking! Let's just say I make great use out of my Michael's, Joann's, Achiever's and LSS coupons! Anything to stretch that little ol' dollar a little further!

So how many of you out there can relate and are deserving of this Marie Antoinette Award?

The rules for this award are to name 5 things about myself AND tag 5 people for this award!

5 things about myself are:
1. My birthday is right around the corner! (I'm thinking blog candy soon!)
2. I'm getting ready to leave for a Mexican Vacation in a few short weeks, and I'm so excited with butterflies in my stomach every time I think about it!

3. I'm a perfectionist--one quality about myself that is both good and bad! (which is why creating just one card can take me hours to complete!)

4. I love coffee and don't function well without it--just ask my husband! Once of my favorite parts of my morning routine is to enjoy my coffee at the computer and blog hop!

5. Today I'm meeting with some of my scrap/stamp buddies for a play day, all-day-long! Watch for more cards right here, coming soon!

In no particular order, the five people I'm passing this award to are:

Cindi-Hooked on Crafts, in Maine

Jan-Far North

Barb-Barb's Card Creations

Cathy-Crafty Thoughts

Dawn-Dawn's Rubber Room

Well, I'm off to pack my bags for my big play-day! Hopefully I don't chit-chat too much--I have big plans to get a lot done.

Ta Ta For Now!

Smiles,
Jennifer

(Thanks, Patti!) Patti is a very talented stamper and her work has inspired me so many times! Her inspiration gave me the courage to try out for the DRS Design team and I made it!

For fear of losing my Stamper's MoJo (hate it when that happens!) I do a lot of blog hopping and blog surfin' -- there is ton of inspiration out there, as I'm sure you all know! I too, would like to pass this award along to some amazing bloggers.

  • Kim - For her weekly "Challenge me Thursdays," for giving it a try regardless of what the challenge is & then coming up with something great!

  • Kelly - My most recent Secret Sister, for always putting the goodies I sent her to great use & posting them on her blog for all to see!

  • Stacy- For creating cards with great layouts. I enjoy seeing all of the different variations in her work!

  • Ethel- For creating cards and projects that will brighten anyone's Day!

  • Debbie-For a blog that is inspiring, totally fun, AND entertaining!

Here are the award rules:
1. The winner can put the logo on their blog

2. Link the person you received your award from

3. Nominate at least 7 other blogs

4. Put links of those blogs on yours.

I've been Tagged!

Yesterday, I was tagged by a friend of mine, Teresa from the Stamp Shack.

Here are the rules...

Each player answers questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5-6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answers.

What were you doing Ten Years Ago?
This would have been the summer between my Freshman and Sophomore years in college, at Michigan State University! I would have been spending my summer working for a Stock Brokerage firm in downtown Detroit. I was paid $12.00 an hour (Can you believe that back then!) to assist the Brokers by answering phones, doing mass mailings, copying documents, typing, and sorting mail and filing. Basically, I was a Receptionist. It was a great job and it helped me save for college.

Five Things in Today's "To Do" List ...
1. Work
2. Go to Cousin's Graduation Party
3. Shop for vase decor for living room
4. Get work uniform & lunch ready for tomorrow
5. Go to bed early--need to be up at 4:30am for work! (YUCK!)

I'm addicted to... my computer, card making, scrapbooking, eating sweets after meals, Gray's Anatomy (Can't wait for the new season to start!)

Things I Would Do If I Were a Millionaire...
#1 Pay off all debt! Share a portion with every family member, invest some of it, take a long vacation in the tropics, & buy some stamps & crafting tools that I have been wishing for of course!

Places I have Lived:
Sterling Heights, MI
East Lansing, MI
Roseville, MI
St. Clair Shores, MI
Macomb, MI

Go check them out! I am tagging:
Kimmy
Beth
Barb
Kim

Have fun reading & playing!

Blue Ribbon Award!

Double Take ribbons are given to Stamp Shack members who post work in the gallery that causes viewers to do a double-take, or when a viewer spots a stamped project that makes them say, "WOW! Check this out!!!" The Stamp Shack Creative Team recognizes stamped projects that have made them say exactly this!

The Creative Team showcases the best of the best, and this doesn't necessarily mean projects with the most embellishments, those that use the "hippest and trendiest" stamps, or what is currently popular in the rubber stamping scene. Recognition for this section is given at the discretion of the Creative Team for exemplary creativity and execution of stamping techniques. The Creative Team looks for artwork which utilizes creative techniques; those that are non-cookie cutter, or for artists who bring unique ideas to the Stamp Shack which have never been tried before.

I am proud to say that I've won my first Double-Take blue ribbon on the Stamp-Shack!

Here is my winning card...with ribbon attached!

I posted this card on my blog about a week ago. You can see the post here to learn how I made it.

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Smiles,

Jennifer
