Just a Note...

The last few days I have been busy playing with the generous grab bag of stamps I received from DRS Designs. In 2 days I have completed 6 cards! That's quite an accomplishment for me, as I am a slow card maker. I've also received 2 sets of the Spellbinders Nestabilities, so I have been practicing cutting and embossing with them as well.

Here's one of the cards I recently made.

To create this card, I used 3 stamps from DRS Designs: D800 Simple Flourish, B244 Just a Note..., and K097 Plant Shelf. I colored the image with my Prismacolor Pencils and blended the colors with Gamsol. I used blue chalk to shade the area behind the plants (sorry it is difficult to see this in my picture). I matted the image a few times using cardstock that matched the colors I used in the image and then stamped the Simple Flourish image above and below the image. To finish it off, I added the Just a Note... stamp just below the image. Voila! Simple & quick, and I love the way the orange & light blue look together.

Get out your guns!

Heat guns that is! For this weeks Fun Filled Friday Challenge, Kimmy has decided that we create our cards using heat embossing. I must admit that I think the technique itself is a little cumbersome, but I love the results! It's been awhile since I used this technique.

I'm gettin' out my supplies & puttin' my thinking cap on. Hope you'll join us! Kimmy has a blog candy drawing for everyone who participates in our fun filled challenge Fridays. "Survivor" Card Making Style

The Stamp Shack is hosting a Survivor card making game right now. It started just this past Wednesday on August 6th.

Here's how it works:

Each participant creates a card as their official game entry--anything you want. It can be plain and simple or it can contain several embellishments and be all dressed up. Each participant then posts their entry card to the Shack Gallery. Once the contest has begun, an 'Elimination Statement' is posted every morning. If your card contains the item listed in the elimination statement for that day, it is removed from the game and from the gallery. An elimination statement might look something like this: 'If your card contains a red brad, you are eliminated from play.' So, all entries containing a red brad(s) will be eliminated from the game. Elimination statements will be released each day until there is just one card remaining in the gallery. The final card is the Shack Survivor and is the winner of the contest and the prize!

For this round, the prize is a $25 gift certificate to My Favorite Things.

This is the card I submitted for the game.

Isn't he cute? I decided to go the simple route with this one. The moon was colored with Prismacolor Pencils, and his eyes were colored with a yellow-green Prismacolor Marker. Then I just layered the image a few times with Bazzill cardstock, used the decorative corner punch & that's it! This card measures 5" x 5".

Well, I am sad to announce that I was eliminated today. Here are the four elimination statements that I encountered during this round of play:

Elimination Statement #1: If your card has more than one patterned paper design, you are eliminated.

Elimination Statement #2: Your card must have at least two different solid colored cardstock layers (patterned paper is excluded). If not, you are eliminated.

Elimination Statement #3: If your card has checkered or polka dotted ribbon (any color or width) you are eliminated.

Elimination Statement #4: Your card must have at least one embellishment (ribbon, brad, eyelet, charm, clip, etc). If not, you are eliminated.

That last one is the one that did it for me! I thought my lack of embellishments would help me on this one-Apparently not!

Oh well...it has been fun so far. Wishing the best of luck to all the remaining Shackies on the Survivor Island!

Pink and Green = Frog with Flowers!

For this weeks Fun Filled Friday Challenge, I challenged Kimmy to make a card that is pink and green!

What could be better for this challenge than this Rubbernecker image of a Frog holding pink flowers?


To make this card I first stamped the image and colored it with pencils and blended the colors using Gamsol. I used a decorative corner punch on all 4 corners of the image, and then inked the edges of the images using pink chalk ink. Next, I matted the image with green cardstock, and then matted the image again using light green patterned paper.

I used a photo corner punch to cut the pink photo corners for each corner of the matted image, and then used the smaller photo corner to add dimension to the upper right corner as shown. I added 3 green bling stickers to this photo corner.



Next, I used the slit punch to add an opening to tie the ribbon around. I adhered the matted image piece to a A2 size cardstock base. I finished the card by adding a pink bling sticker to the space between the 2 photo corners at the top & bottom of the image.

Card Sketch Wednesday #5

Here's my version-a chocolate cake Birthday card!

To make this card, I first stamped the cake image and colored it with pencils. I trimmed the white cardstock around it, and then used my corner rounder on each of the corners. I matted it with brown cardstock and again used my corner rounders on all 4 corners. Next, I added a copper brad to each of the upper corners. I used my Cricut and my circle Coluzzle to create the yellow and brown circles. (I know, I need those Nesties...Still working on it!) I adhered the yellow circle on top of the brown one, and then adhered the matted image to the center of it.




I added red Stickles to the center of the flame and then added 2 different color yellow Stickles to the top portion of the flame to create a "firey" look. While the Stickles were drying, I created the cardstock base.


This finished card size measures 5" x 5." I created the cardstock base from yellow Bazzill cardstock. I used brown and yellow patterned paper matted onto brown cardstock, and added a copper brad in each of the 4 corners. I then, adhered it to the front of my card base. I added yellow ribbon as seen in the sketch to the front of my card. To finish it, I added "Celebrate!" to the lower right corner.

Here's the sentiment I stamped on the inside. Doesn't it fit perfectly? I just love the mental picture I get when I actually think about what it says. It makes me laugh every time!

Another Inchie Challenge!

Yes, another inchie project! I just couldn't help myself...an idea popped into my head and I just had to attempt it and create another inchie card!


This one was made a little differently than my first one. I actually used 1" x 1" folded inchies cards on this, rather than using 1"x 1" squares on it, like my previous one. Did you get a chance to see it in yesterday's post?

To make this card, I first cut my 4 inchie cards out and scored them in the middle. I then stamped the leaf image with Embossing ink, sprinkled it with copper embossing powder and heat set it. I repeated this for each inchie stamping the leaf in a different position each time.

I used "the beauty of autumn..." stamp in sections to stamp one word on the inside of each inchie as you can see in this picture below.

Next, I matted each inchie card on copper cardstock, making adjustments so that I would be able to tuck the upper right corner of each inchie into the copper mat, so that it would keep the inchie card closed.

Then, I cut a 5 1/8" x 1 3/4" piece of yellow-orange cardstock and matted it on brown cardstock. I arranged each inchies side by side on top of the yeloow-orange cardstock.

I created the A2 size cardstock base from smooth orange colored cardstock. I finalized this card by heat embossing the leaf border stamp with copper embossing powder on the top and bottom portions of the card base, and adhered my matted inchie piece to the center of the card.

DRS Challenge-Inchies!

The DRS Designs Stamp Company has posted their first reader challenge this week..."Inchies!" Are you familiar with what they are? Make sure to run over to their blog to check out all the details and to see the inchie projects from the other Design Team members. I've tried to explain what inchies are a little here on this post. You can also read about my inchie project here as well. Read on!



Inchies are one of the latest fads in card making. They are 1" x 1" cards, yes, tiny greeting cards, that display stamping on the front, and a short, little message on the inside, if you wish.



I can read your mind...right now you are thinking that most rubber stamps you have seen are much, much larger than 1" x 1", and who can write small enough to fit inside such a tiny card?


Well, that's the beauty of inchies! The fun part about creating them is that the front is so small that you use only "portions" of larger stamps to decorate them. You could even create several inchies to decorate the front of a larger card. That's what I did to create this one.








I used the spotlight technique to create this card. As you can see my inchies are the "spotlights!"

To make this card, I first stamped the Sunflower Pumpkin Patch stamp on smooth white cardstock twice, on 2 separate pieces of cardstock. I then used my colored pencils to color in the areas of the image that I wanted to "spotlight" on one of those images. For now, I put the second image aside while I created my inchies.


Next, I cut out the 1" x 1" inchie-squares that I wanted to use on the front of my card. (Yes, I actually used my paper trimmer to cut them out 1" x 1"! I don't have a true 1" square paper punch, but that would have made this project a little quicker & a little easier--so, if you have one, by all means, use it!)

Once I had my 3 "spotlights" cut out, I used black cardstock to mat each one, adding dimension to my image, and to help define the spotlight on the image. Then, I adhered each spotlight to the other image I stamped, exactly where that square belongs in the image.





From this point on, my image is complete. Now all I had to do was decorate the card base & add my spotlight image to it.

To do this, I matted the full image on black cardstock. I thought this really helped make my "spotlights" stand out. Doesn't the color just pop?
Then, to bring out the orange in the pumpkins I matted it again with orange cardstock. To bring out the yellow in the sunflowers I again matted the entire piece on yellow cardstock, however, this time I left a larger border at the bottom so I had room to include a sentiment.


I stamped "the beauty of autumn..." just below the image. Finally, to complete the entire card, I adhered the matted image piece to the front of a 5" x 5" brown cardstock base.

Bottle Cap Challenge!

For this Fun Filled Friday Challenge, I was challenged by one of my readers, Tami, to create a card using bottle caps. I have not used bottle caps in so long! It was good to get them out again & bang away! LOL! What a stress reliever!

To make this card, I first stamped the tulip image on white cardstock. I then, paper pieced the tulip flowers from pink patterned paper and the stems from green patterned paper. I shaded in the background with blue chalk and then used a sponge dauber with blue ink, and a scallop punch-out to create the clouds. I love how the clouds makes this card look like a field of tulips! Don't you agree?

Next, I matted the image with light blue cardstock and then again with light green cardstock. I cut an A2 size cardstock base and adhered the matted image to it. I used hot pink ribbon on the upper left corner and bottom right corner as shown to help add a little dimension.

Then it was time for the fun part--to add the bottle cap to my project by smashing away! I computer generated the sentiment & then printed it out on pink cardstock. I used my 1" circle punch to punch it out and inked the edges with pink ink. Then, I adhered the sentiment circle to the center of the bottle cap, and used glue dots to adhere the bottle cap to my card.

Here's my version of this sketch. I thought this one was really fun to make. I love these colors together.

To make this card, I first stamped the Classic Floral stamp and colored with pencils and shaded the areas around the flowers with blue chalk. I cut each of the flowers out individually and matted them with the same color cardstock as the flower petals. For example, the pink flower was matted in pink cardstock. Then I matted each one again in light blue cardstock.

Next, I cut a light pink cardstock panel and arranged the 3 flowers on it. One at the top, one in the middle and one at the bottom. I then, matted it again in dark pink cardstock and added 2 hot pink brads to the top and bottom areas of the middle flower.

I made the finished card base from hot pink cardstock. It measures 8" x 4". I cut out a light pink mat for it, and then adhered the striped patterned paper over the mat. I attached the hot pink ribbon vertically over the patterned paper, adhered it, and then tied a knot in the center of it. This entire piece was adhered to the front of the cardstock base.

I adhered the matted image piece to the left side of the ribbon, as shown.

TGIF and FFF Birds!

Happy TGIF Everyone! I'm so glad the weekend is here! Well, since it's Friday, Kimmy and I are posting our Bird theme Fun Filled Friday cards today.


To be honest, I was a bit worried with this one--AND I picked the theme! How does that happen? Anyways, I just wasn't feeling very "birdy" this week and was having a hard time getting a layout that I liked. Slowly, but surely, this one turned out much better than expected, and I actually like its simplicity!







First, I colored the bird image with my Prismacolor Pencils. I matted it with light blue cardstock and then again with dark blue cardstock. I used Post-It notes to block off the white area around the image, and then used blue ink & my sponge daubers to create the airbrushed look around the image. Once I removed the Post-it notes, I was in awe as the blue ink sort of resembled the sky--perfect for this bird in a tree image!



I created the card base from light blue cardstock, measuring for an A2 size envelope (4.25" x 5.5"). I used my Score-Pal to add score lines over the upper portion of my card. I matted the patterned paper with dark blue cardstock and added a dark blue brad to each lower corner. I then, adhered the entire piece to the lower portion of the card front. I threaded ribbon through the holes in the image, and I attached the ribbon on the left side of the image with a dark blue brad, and I tied the right side in a knot and adhered it to the base.

To finalize the card, I stamped "Thank You" just below the image.

Here's my finished sketch card. I made this for a Wedding Shower I'll be attending in a few weeks.

This finished card measures 4.25" x 5.5". I, first, stamped the image on smooth white cardstock & colored it with my Prismacolor pencils. I used a gray Copic markers to color the bath tub and shower head. I used my Marvy Uchida scallop punches to punch out the image and the light pink cardstock I used to mat it. I used my circle Coluzzle to cut the dark pink circle, and arranged them as shown.

I cut the patterned paper to half the size of the card and matted it with light pink cardstock. I added the 3 brads to the lower portion of the matted patterned paper and added the 2 pieces of ribbon to the upper left corner as shown. I then adhered it to the left side of the card.

I then adhered the matted image to the center of the card, so that half of it overlapped the patterned paper and the other half was on the main card base. I used my clear alphabet stamps to vertically stamp "Best Wishes" along the right side of the card.

Just a Friendly Note...

Hope everyone is having a great day today. I'm excited because I am off of work tomorrow! Yeah! I have a full day planned relaxing & working on some new cards in my studio. Gotta love a day like that!

Well, for those of you who have been following my blog you've probably guessed that one of my favorite flowers to make cards with are Daffodils. I couldn't pass them up when I was contacted by Samantha from DRS Designs for the DRS Designs DT finalist round. Here's one of the cards I made using their Framed Daffodil stamp (P104) and the "A Friendly Note" (D586) sentiment.





I used my Prismacolor Pencils to color the image and blended the colors with Gamsol. I used light blue chalk to color in the areas around the flowers. I then, cut out the image and traced the edges with a black Sharpee marker. Next, I layered it with yellow and green cardstock and adhered it to a light blue cardstock base. I stamped the sentiment under the image





After I colored the main image, I created a 3-D look with the butterflies. I stamped the image again 3 more times & colored only the butterflies. I cut all 3 butterflies out. I layered a second butterfly on top of the one already in the upper portion of the image, by placing adhesive only on the center of the butterfly. Once I had it in position, I "fluffed" up the wings, to make it look like it was flying!






I layered the other 2 butterflies the same way and adhered the butterfly set to the bottom of the image, just above the sentiment. Here's a close up picture. See how the butterfly looks real! I loved how it looked!

I'm So Excited!

About a month ago I saw that DRS Designs was looking for new design team members. I took the plunge and submitted my work, and now I'm ecstatic to reveal that I have made their Design Team! I love their stamps! If you love to color like me, then you will love their stamps as well. They come either wood mounted or rubber only, and they have stamps and sentiments for every occasion. Birds!

Rubbernecker Challenge 18 and Stamp Shack Color Challenge!

For today's post, I've made one card to satisfy 2 different challenges. The first challenge was for this week's Rubbernecker Blog Challenge to use an animal image from their company and the second was for the Color challenge on the Stamp Shack, using faded denim, dark blue, ruby red, and white.

The animal image is "Flag Chickie" by Rubbernecker Stamps, and the color challenge colors are perfect for a Patriotic card. It's July 17th. It's not too late for a Patriotic 4th of July card, is it?

• Paper: Cardstock is Bazzill, patterned paper is by the Paper Studio
