Whooo's Special

  Hi Stampers!
Hope you are all doing well today!
I'm excited that DRS Designs has some new stamps coming out very soon!  This time of year, I get busy making cards for all of the holidays that I often forget about making cards for other occasions, like birthdays etc. One of the best things about this next release is that there is a little bit of everything in it--this release is not just for Autumn and Thanksgiving! For the sneak peek I'm sharing today, the Woodgrain Background (626P) is one of the new stamps soon-to-be released and it was used here to create the tree on this birthday card!

In this little scene, I stamped and colored Oswald Owl (132H) with Copic Markers and cut him out.  I stamped a piece of tan card stock with the woodgrain background and then distressed the edges with brown ink. I used an oval die to cut out the center and adhered natural twine around the opening. I embossed a piece of black card stock with a woodgrain embossing folder to add some dimension to my tree-like card front. Oswald Owl was adhered inside of the oval as if he was sitting in the tree.  Next I created the sentiment tag by stamping the Whooo's Special Greeting (142B) on a piece of yellow card stock and then cut it out with a shaped die. I layered it with an orange fishtail banner and a brown scallop and embellished it with a tan brad on either side as shown. The final step was to adhere the card front on to an A2 brown card stock base.

Stay tuned, right here, for more sneak peeks of the upcoming stamp release.  The new stamps will be available for purchase real soon! Yay!

Have a great day!

Jennifer

Whooo's Special

Lucky me, I've been able to do lots of stamp-related things over the last 2 days! I was able to take my time shopping at a local scrapbook store and Hobby Lobby 'kid-free' (big thanks to my Hubby for that!), I sketched a bunch of layouts in a notebook and now with new supplies in-hand, I was also able to get inky and watch some of those drawings come to life! I'll still have a lot more cards to finish up, but I'll hopefully be showing many of them off in the upcoming week!  Now that's lucky for you! LOL!

In the mean time, this owl card I have for you today was one I put together about a week ago. I was playing around with the Double Tall Pines (741P) and found that I like them as a background the best. I think they make for some really great masculine cards.  For the card front below I used the masking technique to create the background so that the pines overlapped a bit.  I used a Post-It Note to section off the area I wanted for the ground and sponged it with Vintage Photo ink.  I used the same ink to distress the edges all around the card front as well.

I used Oswald the Owl (132H) for my focal point.  He was colored with Copic Markers and I used the Out-of-the-box Technique to cut him out.  If you look close, his tail is sticking out from the oval frame.  I sponged beige ink around him to create the frame while he was still in the Nestie die.  I did the same thing with the Whooo's Special Greeting (142B), but when I adhered it in place, I used foam tape to pop it up and add some dimension to the card front.  I added 2 brown brads to the upper left corner and then adhered the card front to a dark green cardstock base.  Finished size is 4.25" x 5.5."

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!

Jennifer

Whooo's Special

Have you seen the adorable inspiration image for this weeks challenge on the Cupcakes Inspiration Blog
You can use this image however you'd like--you can pick theme, color, patterns etc. I just had to take the owl theme and run with it! Of course since DRS Designs is the sponsor of this challenge, all of the stamps I used are by DRS Designs. They include: Oswald the Owl (132H), the Someone Whooo's Special Greeting (142B), and Vicki's Versatile Background (369H)

I colored the owl with Copics, used a glaze pen on his eyes and adhered him and the greeting with foam tape for some added dimension. How does the photo above inspire you? Play along and enter your challenge card HERE for a chance to win a Store Voucher to DRS Designs.

Thanks for visiting!

Christmas Whooo!

Has the hustle and bustle of the holidays started yet for you?  We've been racing around trying to get the Thanksgiving decorations down and the Christmas decorations up.  It won't be long before I'm heading out to shop for what on my gift giving list this year!

Unfortunately, the card I have to show you today is on the DRS Designs Blog.  You'll have to run over there to see if I was able to sucessfully dress Oswald the Owl (132H) for the Christmas season!

Happy Holidays!

It's Time "For the Birds!"

Welcome to the 2nd Sunflowers & Dragonflies blog challenge!

This week’s challenge is "For the Birds." Use bird images-ducks, geese, owls etc, anything with feathers and wings! Anyone can play along in the challenge and we hope you will! There are no limits on time or supplies. Of course we’d prefer that you use images by Sunflowers and Dragonflies, but feel free to use other images. Your participation will enter you in a drawing to win a Nestability set for free! Please post a direct link to your challenge project on the Sunflowers and Dragonflies Challenge #2 Post from either your blog or an online gallery so we can view it. If you upload to an online gallery, please use the keyword S&D2. You have until next Friday, at noon, to get your challenge finished and linked on the S&D Challenge #2 Blog Post. Good luck!

I completed this week's challenge using the Owl image from Sunflowers and Dragonflies.

I colored this Beauty with Primacolor pencils and blended the colors with Gamsol. Then I cut it out using my Nestie Die & sponged light blue ink around it while it was still in the die.

Fun layout don't you think?!?!?! Well, I've recently discovered Sheet Loads & I used the July layout for this sketch. If you participate in card swaps or make several cards with the same design, you'll definitely want to check them out. Each month they give you the layout recipe to reproduce 8+ cards while maximizing your materials & speed the making progress. I am in awe, and wish I found them sooner!

The flowers I used on this card are Prima flowers that are also for sale from Sunflowers and Dragonflies. I layered them and fixed them in place with a brad & adhered leaf accents to the back before adhering them on the card front.

Hooooo's the Winner????

I know you are all anxiously waiting to hear who the winner is of my Blogoversary Blog Candy giveaway, but first, are any of you owl fans?

Here's the Canadian Owl from the new company Sunflowers and Dragonflies Creative Designs.

Kimmy and I had a stamp night a while ago & she let me use her Nesties Labels one on this card. Now I'm itchin' to get them, but I'm really trying to hold off. Our yard still needs grass, so we are saving our pennies for a sprinkler system and sod. The other foliage will have to wait! It's nice to know that she has them for me to play with whenever we get together to stamp.

I colored this image with Prismacolor Pencils and blended the colors with Gamsol--my favorite way to color! I matted it as shown and used a brown Zig pen to doodle in the corners around the matted image. As I look into the eyes of this owl, it kind of creeps me out! DING! DING! Did you hear that? My light bulb just went off again. I've got another idea for this fella. I'll get right to work on it and I'll post it here on my blog tomorrow for you to see.

Stamps: Sunflowers and Dragonflies Creative Designs- Owl
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink in Creamy Brown
Paper: Smooth white cardstock by Office Depot, Bazzill Colored Cardstock
Accessories: Nesties, EK Success Decorative Corner Punch, Brown Zig Marker, Ribbon by American Crafts, Spiral Clip unknown.
Finished Card Size: 5.25" x 5.25"

Ok, Ok, so now, what you've all been waiting for...

Meet Oswald, a New Hooter!

We all know Owls are one of the latest crazes among the stamping world. Did you see the new owl image from DRS Designs?

Let me introduce you to Oswald the Owl!

I created this fun card to make it look like he was up in the trees. Do you get this effect?

I created the background by stamping the Pine Tree image, alternating one up, one down using both dark & light Olive green ink. Then, I filled in the trees with chalk. I used a decorative corner punch on each of the four corners and matted it with dark green cardstock. I added 4 copper brads in each corner for a little contrast.

Oswald was colored with Prismacolor pencils and blended with Gamsol. I used my Nesties to cut him out and mat him. I created the polka dots with a brown Zig marker. I tied dark brown ribbon and orange & olive green ribbon together in a knot & wrapped it around the front of the pine tree background. I used foam tape to adhere Oswald on top of the pine tree background.

I had an itching to use my sewing machine on this card. I haven't used it in a while & figured I should make it a point to use it if I can. So, I did! I sewed a horizontal line at the top & bottom portions of a lime green cardstock panel that I placed behind the pine tree background. It's definitely different, but I really like the look!

Stamps: DRS Designs- Oswald the Owl, Pine Tree
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink in Olive Pastel and Lime Pastel
Paper: Smooth white cardstock by Office Depot, Colored Cardstock by The Paper Company,
Accessories: EK Success Decorative Corner Punch, Janome Sew Mini Sewing Machine, brown thread-unknown, Copper Brads by Joann's Scrap Essentials, Ribbon by Joann's Autumn Inspirations and Midori Double Faced Satin in Velvet Brown, Nesties, Brawn Zig Marker, Chalk by Inkadinkado, 3D-Dots
Finished Card Size: 5.75" x 5.5"

Hope you've enjoyed meeting Oswald today!

Stay tuned right here to Ink N Scrap Habits for tomorrow's Sketch Challenge!

Have a wonderful day!

Jennifer
