Pop Up Birthday!

Happy Friday everyone!

This week's DRS Designs challenge is all about shaped cards--no square or rectangle cards allowed. I really had to think about this one since anything but square cards tend to be difficult for me. I'm sure you can imagine my excitement when I found the tutorial for a Teepee card in the April issue of Scrap and Stamp Arts. It's perfect for this challenge! I, however changed the theme from a reindeer card to this Popcorn Birthday card.

Knowing that I needed some patterned paper for this card, I created my own using the Easy Popcorn Background (1124H). After cutting it to size, I matted it with black cardstock and then colored each kernel with my Y06 and Y08 Copic Markers. I also added a little Stickles to them. It really brightened up each panel. It almost made it look as if warm, melted butter glistened on each piece. Yum! Is your mouth watering yet? LOL! I assembeled the teepee as shown according to the tutorial and added stamped embellishments to each side.

The first side I stamped with a portion of the Popped Up Again Birthday Greeting (924H). The word popped was coloed with my R29 Copic marker and then I added red Stickles to the word "popped" to make it pop!

The next side was embellished with the Popcorn Bowl image (1131G). After coloring it with Copic Markers, I cut it out and adhered it to a black cardstock oval. The popcorn on this image also has Stickles on it.

Finally, here's the last side.  The image used here is the Popcorn Box (920H).  It was colored the same way as the other images and of course, Stickles were used again as well. Do you wish you could just reach in a eat a hand full of that deliciousness?!?!

Four years ago today I started my blog. I remember being nervous, yet very eager to show off my work. Now with many dedicated readers, I'm glad I did! I'd like to celebrate with a small give-away. I have an extra copy of the April issue of Stamp and Scrap Arts that I'd like to give to one of my readers.

Curious as to why I have an extra copy? Well, one I received as part of my regular subscription, and the other I received as a complimentary copy because my Scarecrow card has been published on page 38!!!!! Big thanks to DRS Designs for submitting this card for me!

This give away is open to everyone.  Please leave me a comment and I'll pick one random winner Monday morning March 26th.

Happy Thoughts

Spring has Sprung and to celebrate the theme this week for the DRS Designs Blog Challenge is Butterflies. Here's my challenge entry. I've combined this with this week's SCS sketch challenge SC377 for the layout.

All stamps on this card are by DRS Designs. I started by coloring the Daffodil Butterfly Circle (1073L) with Copic Markers. I used this as the focal point on my card front, and by doing so, I changed the SCS sketch to accommodate a circle rather than an oval. The blue background panel was stamped with the Three Butterflies (744F) with Versamark ink, and I added the Happy Thoughts Greeting (951D) with onyx Versafine ink. The pink panels were embossed with the Swiss Dots embossing folder and purple and pink ribbon were used for the horizontal panel in the sketch.

I love the colors on this card and I think they are perfect for Spring! Are you as excited as I am that Winter's over!? With all of the bright and sunny days we've had this week, Spring is off to a great start! I hope yours is too, Enjoy!

Good Courage

Happy Monday!

Hope you all had a great, restful weekend. I spent the weekend working at my real job. The Monday after is such a relief that the stressful weekend is over. I always look forward to my day off during the week and I get excited knowing that having the entire upcoming weekend off right around the corner! One thing I enjoy about my job is that in my down time, I am able to color some of my stamped images and draw out some card layouts for future projects. Today's Good Courage card is one of the projects I started at work this weekend. After putting my little one to bed last night I was able to create the actual card.

The focal image seen here was created using 2 stamps. Both the Good Courage Greeting (1083F) and the Broken Flower Fence (1091K) are by DRS Designs. I colored it with Copic Markers and stamped the greeting in the open space above it. After cutting around the stamped image, I dressed it up by adding some white ribbon and matting it twice before adhering it on a 3.75" x 5" light green card stock base. I used yellow Stickles on the centers of the daisies which added a touch of elegance.

Well, that's it for me today. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

CAS Easter

Sometimes the best looking cards are those that are the simplest, and right now there's a challenge out there that works best with my schedule nowadays--Clean and Simple!

CAS is the theme for this weeks DRS blog challenge, and this Easter card is my challenge entry. I'm sure it's pretty easy to figure out how I made it, but just in case some of you are looking for a specific detail, here they are:
I started by making the card base from white cardstock to measure A2 size. Next, the edges were inked with Vintage Photo. I then cut a yellow cardstock panel matted with a thin border of brown cardstock and decorated it with a little twine near the top border. This was adhered to the bottom half of the card front. Next, I stamped the bottom of the yellow panel with the Promise of God's Love Easter greeting (974F). I used the Triple Crosses (510G) as the focal point, which was stamped in Momento Cocoa Brown ink, and adhered it to the center of the card with foam tape after matting it with brown cardstock. A small bow made from twine was added to the right of the image and a few yellow rhinestones were added along the decorative panel to dress it up a bit.

I know I inked alot on this card and I added some embellishments that I could have easily omitted and still had a nice looking CAS card, but this card really didn't take me too long to make. Compared to most of my cards, this is CAS for me and I guess you could call it QAE too--quick and easy!

If you have a few minutes to create a CAS card, the DRS DT would love to see it. Link it up HERE to enter and win free stamps from DRS Designs.

Thanks for stopping by and seeing my work. I appreciate your visit!

Luck O' The Irish

I know this is a busy week for all you Irish folk out there.  Things are turning more and more green around here and I'm not just talking about the flowers coming up.  Can you believe it's almost St. Patrick's Day already!?!?!?

To help celebrate the holiday, I created this card for DRS Designs Yellow, Black, and Green color challenge.  I colored the Hatfull of Shamrocks (205K) with Copic Markers and matted it with black cardstock.  Then I created the backgrounds by stamping the Celtic Knot (651D)  on yellow cardstock with So Saffron ink.  I added the sentiment from the One Line Luck O The Irish Greeting (206D), but took the shamrocks off the ends and used them to create my background paper for the bottom half of the card front.  I stamped them with Garden Green ink.  Next, the background panels were decorated with the Treading Water border punch. I used black cardstock for my A2 cardstock base and then arranged the stamped backgrounds as shown, separating them with a strip of black grosgrain ribbon.

I adhered the matted image in the center between both panels and simply embellished the front with a beautiful yellow bow and some sparkly yellow Stickels on the buckle, and this St. Patty's card was complete!

Happy St. Patrick's Day and may the Luck O' the Irish be with you today and always!

Happy Easter!

In need of a little inspiration?  DRS Designs is the sponsor this week on the Card Patterns Blog. There's a great sketch to play with and the opportunity to win $20(!) in FREE DRS stamps! You can see all the details HEREI used the challenge sketch to create this Easter card.

The Big Bunny Face (639G) was colored with Copic Markers and layered a bit with matching cardstock.  I used an embossing folder to embellish the right side of the card front and separated that section from the rest of the card with sheer dark pink ribbon.  I stamped the One Line Happy Birthday (665B) for the sentiment, but stamped each word separately with my Stamp-a-ma-jig as shown.  Three layered paper flowers were used to decorate the upper right side of the card.  Finally the card front was adhered to a 4.25" x 5.5" dark pink card stock base.

Don't forget about DRS Designs weekly blog challenge for another chance to win. You'll find another sketch challenge to play with there as well. I hope you'll take a few minutes to check                              them out.

Thanks for poppin' in and have a wonderful day!

Easter Blessings Butterfly

Now that Lent is upon us, it's time to start those Easter cards.  Here's one of my first for this year using a new image called the Daffodil Butterfly Circle (1073L).  This image was fun to color.  I used Copic Markers and I also used twine to dress up this layout rather than ribbon.  It was a nice change and I love how it pulls all the colors together.  I added a self-adhesive pearl on either side of the Easter Blessings Sentiment (1029D)

In case you need a bit of inspiration to get you started on your Easter cards, take a look at the Easter stamps by DRS Designs or check out all of the Easter cards made by their Design Team in the DRS Designs Card Gallery.  I'm sure you'll find something to jump start your mojo!

Have a great day!

Sympathy Sketch

I'm not really a fan of making sympathy cards, but I try to make them every so often just to have on hand. The sympathy card I'm showing today was made for the sketch challenge that can be found this week on the DRS Designs Blog

I kept the details to a minimum and used the Many Hearts of Sorrow greeting (598G) for the center of the challenge design. I heat embossed it with clear embossing powder on glossy white cardstock. Then I cut it out with an oval Nestability die and sponged Ballet Blue ink over it in order for the sentiment to become visible.

I matted it on green triangles and added a paper flower on either side.  On my dark blue A2 size cardstock base, I added 2 light blue panels that I embossed with the Swiss Dots folder.  as a final step I added the matted sentiment design to the center of the card.

The winner of this DRS Sketch challenge will get their choice of 3 DRS Designs stamps for FREE! Yes, that's right, not 1, not 2 but 3 stamps for FREE!! Run over HERE and link up your card today!
